Use green means of transportation to the Gavle Goat Inauguration!
The Gavle Goat Inauguration on the first of advent is one of Gävle's largest events, and each year, tens of thousands of goat fans are gathered on Castle Square in order to see our grand goat inaugurated. But what is the best possible way to get to Castle Square?
One way to help out is by using a green alternative when travelling to the inauguration ceremony. Walking and biking are possible options for those who live nearby - that is, if the Swedish December weather allows it - but the famous goat has visitors from all over the world. Hence, buses and trains will be excellent means of transportation. Or why not join a carpool group? https://www.facebook.com/skjutsgruppen/
Gävle strives to become one of Swedens's most eco-friendly municipalities to live in. In 2013, the municipality adopted an environmentally strategic programme, with designated goals within seven different areas. As a result of this, in 2017, the Goat Committee and Gävle Municipality are cooperating with the organisation Keep Sweden Tidy in order to make the goat inauguration a certified eco-friendly event, with the Swedish classification Miljömärkt Event. This means that the event needs to fulfill certain conditions regarding e.g. waste handling, transportation and purchases.
Some more information about the event
Due to the inauguration ceremony, the roads surrounding the Gävle Goat will be blocked during the 3rd of December. We therefore advice drivers to drive around the area instead of passing it. During the day, roads will also be shut off due to the Advent Race.
There will be disabled parking areas at Castle Square for those who have a valid parking licence. Two toilets will be placed outside the library, and there is an RWC inside the library. There is also a wheelchair ramp near the stage.

During the inauguration ceremony itself, our information stand is placed near the stage, facing Gävle castle.
