Use green means of transportation to the Gävle Goat Inauguration!
The Gävle Goat Inauguration on the first of Advent is one of Gävle's largest events, and each year, tens of thousands of goat fans are gathered on Castle Square in order to see our grand goat become inaugurated. But what is the best possible way to get to Castle Square?
One way to help out is by using a green alternative when travelling to the inauguration ceremony. Walking and biking are possible options for those who live nearby - that is, if the Swedish December weather allows it - but the famous goat has visitors from all over the world. Gävle strives to become one of Swedens's most eco-friendly municipalities to live in. In 2013, the municipality adopted a strategic programme for sustainability, with designated goals within seven different areas. As a result of this, the Goat Committee and Gävle Municipality are cooperating with the organisation Keep Sweden Tidy in order to make the goat inauguration a certified eco-friendly event, with the Swedish classification Miljömärkt Event. This means that the event needs to fulfill certain conditions regarding e.g. waste handling, transportation and purchases.
