European Dryland Championships

When the European Dryland Championships come to Gävle, some of Europe’s best teams will gather to compete for the medals. This is a sport where speed, endurance and teamwork between dog and handler take centre stage - and things can get seriously fast.

The championships are held on dry land, with competitors taking part in several different disciplines. During the competition, spectators can experience the action up close and discover the remarkable partnership between dogs and their handlers. With more than 650 competitors from over 20 European countries, this will also be a truly international sporting event in Gävle.

The championship week begins on Wednesday, 14 October, with an opening ceremony at Rådhustorget, the main square in central Gävle. The participating nations and competitors will be presented to the public, accompanied by entertainment featuring Lars-Åke “Babsan” Wilhelmsson, Gävle Skidkamrater’s mascot Tugg the sled dog, dance performances by Uddans & Co and singing by Helges.

Make the most of your visit and take some time to discover Gävle beyond the championships. Between the competitions, explore the city’s restaurants and cafés, shopping, culture and museums - all within easy reach in a compact city centre. Discover Gävle’s history, take a walk along the River Gavleån or enjoy dinner after a day of championship action. Stay overnight and you’ll have even more time to experience the city.
