On the first Sunday of Advent, the Christmas spirit lights up in Gävle as we traditionally inaugurate our world-famous Gävle Goat. Festive activities take place around the city throughout the day.

When Christmas begins in Gävle, Stortorget fills with festive cheer. During the stage programme, cultural scholarships are awarded, Gävle’s Citizen of the Year is announced, and the Gävle Goat is inaugurated in true tradition. Local artists also take the stage, spreading Christmas joy with live music for all visitors.

Since 1966, the Gävle Goat has stood as a beloved Christmas symbol for locals and visitors from around the world. With its impressive size, warm glow and unique story, it has become a true sign that Christmas has arrived.

The inauguration offers a wonderful mix of togetherness, light and anticipation – a night when we gather to welcome both the Goat and the magical Christmas season.
