ÅshammarJägarstugan Wilderness Lodge
The forests are not silent, they are living breathing organs brimming with wildlife: the whispering pines sway gently in the breeze; woodpeckers tap on tree trunks, communicating and searching for food; capercaillie clumsily fly and cackle in the distance. Österbergsmuren Nature Reserve is home to 99 species of moss and over 300 species of butterfly some of which are listed as endangered.
Special dispensation has been granted by the county administrative board for this activity to take place, a privilege rarely granted. Your meals are prepared on, and served around an open fire at the forest café. Seasonal ingredients such as berries and mushrooms are sourced from the huge natural larder of the forest.
The resident moose, bears and wolves are shy creatures and they will keep their distance however it is highly likely you will see traces of these beautiful beasts. Book the optional moose safari to increase your chances of seeing the King of the Forest.
